Mensur (also known as academic fencing) is a traditional sort of fencing, highly advocated in 19th century by students' male corporations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Flandria. Nowadays this tradition is still run in some corporations in Germany and Austria. Mensur used to be advocated in some corporations in Central East Europe (Estonia, Romania) but since the mid 20th century the tradition has died.
Members of Corp! RePublica are not engaged in Mensur but as an alternative they practise the sport fencing. They fight with an épée or a sabre, take part in students' and youth competitions of Lithuania.
